(1 - C 1 -C 3 Alkyl - 5 - nitroimidazol - 2 - yl) alkyl carbamates are prepared by the aqueous hydrolysis of corresponding N-(halosulphonyl)- (1 - C 1- C 3 alkyl - 5 - nitroimidazol - 2 - yl) alkyl carbamates, obtained by reacting the appropriate 1 - (C 1 -C 3 alkyl) - 2 - hydroxy - alkyl - 5 - nitroimidazoles with halosulphonyl isocyanates.
