Abstract
1,203,689. Grinding. HERBERT LINDNER G.m.b.H. 4 July, 1968 [6 July, 1967], No. 32024/68. Heading B3D. Apparatus for the internal grinding of bores of relatively small diameter and great length comprises a workpiece support, a grinding spindle head pivotally mounted on a slide reciprocable lengthwise of the axis of a workpiece carried by the support, a rotatable grinding spindle carried by the grinding spindle head, a grinding mandrel one end of which is attached to the grinding spindle and the opposite end of which carries a grinding body, wherein the grinding mandrel and the grinding body are both frusto-conical and at all times have the same conicity, the end of the mandrel which is of greatest diameter is. that which is attached to the grinding spindle, the end of the grinding body which is of greatest diameter is that which is attached to the grinding mandrel and the axis of the grinding mandrel permanently forms with the axis along which the slide is reciprocable an angle equal to one half of the angle of conicity whereby the peripheral side of the mandrel facing the surface being ground is maintained parallel thereto. The bed 1 carries on transverse guides 2 a spindle head 3 which receives a rotatably driven workpiece 4. A slide 7 movable on longitudinal guides 8 on the bed 1 has a transverse T-slot 9 containing screws 10 securing a spindle head 11 to the slide 7. One screw engages a slot 12 in the head 11 so that the head is pivotal about the other screw. The head 11 carries a sleeve 13 in which a grinding spindle 15 is mounted by anti friction bearings (14), the spindle having a drive 16 which may be an electric motor or a belt drive. The front end of the spindle 15 has an internal screw thread (17) for the threaded ends (18) of a grinding mandrel 19. The mandrel has flats (20) to facilitate attachment to the spindle and carries a grinding wheel 21. The mandrel 19 and the grinding wheel 21 are conical. Pivotal adjustment of the head 11 is effected with the aid of a gauge 22 having a rib (23) engageable with the slot 9 in the slide 7 and a surface 24 lying at an angle half the cone angle of the mandrel and grinding wheel. Thus the peripheral surface of the mandrel facing the grinding side is parallel to the inner peripheral surface of the workpiece bore 5; the diameter of the mandrel directly in front of the end face of the sleeve 13 is such that the peripheral surface of the mandrel is just not in contact with the edge of the bore opposite the grinding side.
