Abstract
1,203,675. Silver halide emulsions. ILFORD Ltd. April 18, 1969 [April 26, 1968], No.19913/68. Heading G2C. [Also in Divisions C2 and C4] Silver halide emulsions are sensitized with a merocyanine dye of formula: (in which R 1 is C 1-4 ) alkyl, aralkyl or aryl; R 2 is alkyl, hydroxyalkyl; alkoxyalkyl, aralkyl, carboxyaralkyl, carboxyalkyl, acyloxyalkyl or of one of the formulae: SO 2 NHR 5 ; n is 1-6; R 4 is alkyl; R 5 is alkyl or aralkyl; R 3 is H or optionally substituted alkyl or aryl; x and y are each 0-4; and x+y = 3 or 4). Specified substituents on the benzimidazole nucleus are alkyl, 2-acetoxyethyl, Br, Cl, 2-hydroxyethyl, 2-methoxyethyl, phenethyl, benzyl, and 4-sulphobutyl. Specified substituents on the oxazolidene ring are alkyl, benzyl and hydroxyethyl.
