Abstract

1,203,453. Latch fastenings. FRITZ KEIPER. 5 Sept., 1967 [28 June, 1967], No. 40566/ 67. Heading E2A. A motor vehicle door latch mechanism comprising a latch 10 to be fixed to a door of the vehicle and a keeper 11 to be fixed to a door post of the vehicle, the latch having a latch bolt 13, rotatably mounted in a mounting bush 14 to project from an end wall of the door, with its axis substantially at right angles to said end wall, an intermediate portion of the latch bolt having a contact face 32 extending concentrically about an axis of rotation of the latch bolt and a second face 29 formed by removing material until an approximately semi-circular cross-section is obtained, the bush forming a mounting for a portion of the latch bolt adjacent the inner end thereof, extending to the outer end of the latch bolt to form a second mounting for the latch bolt and having a cut-out 24 at an intermediate position to permit engagement of said contact face and said second face of the latch bolt with the keeper, the keeper having a recess 34, which recess when the latch bolt is in engagement with the keeper accommodates the outer end portions of the bush and latch bolt and having projections 25, 26 forming contact faces 27, 28 which can engage the contact faces of the latch bolt in a safety latching position or in a full latching position to secure the door against movement in the direction of opening thereof and means 23 to rotate the latch bolt to release the latch mechanism. In the construction shown the enlarged end portion of the bush also engages, in the closed position of the door between a buffer 41 and a surface 39 of the recess 34 to provide vertical restraint for the door. The inner end portion of the latch bolt is held in the bush by a mounting ring 20 fixed in the bush. The keeper projections 25, 26 are provided on a steel plate 35 which coacts with the outer end portion of the bush to provide an "antiburst" feature. A second steel plate 36 engaging in a recess 37 of the bush assists in this.
