In an industrial power supply system, insulated distribution cables R, S, T, O, J are supported by insulating clamps 32, spaced apart in metal channels 10, supply and branch-off connections to the cables being made in clamping devices 36 without removing the cable insulation. Trays 14, carrying water and air supplies &c. are mounted on the rear side of the cable channels 10 which are suspended from the ceiling by brackets 16. Each clamping connector 36, Fig. 3, has, within an insulating casing 47, a metallic portion 38 having a side aperture 39 admitting the cable which is forced by a screw 40, having a cutting end, into a notch 44 having a sharp-edged rib 46, and the core of a supply or branch-off cable is clamped by a screw 50 in a hole 48. In another embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) screw-threaded fuses are mounted in holders (68) on insulating base members (60) having bottom contacts (62) of clamping devices (64) similar to the clamps 36. Branch-off cables (55) are supported above the cable channels 10 in tension-relieving brackets (74, Fig. 4, not shown). The system may be extended (Fig. 6, not shown), by branch connections from distribution cables (S1 in one channel (100a to those (S2) in another channel (100s) or by a separate power lead (90) from a central supply (84) to additional distribution cables (S3) in channel (100b). Power supplies for lighting installations (98) may be mounted in the cable trays.
