Abstract

1,203,098. Cartridge for a syringe. PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN N.V. 9 Oct., 1967, No. 46139/67. Heading A5R. A cartridge 10 containing a fluid 46 is provided at one end with a stopper 36 which has a resilient wall section 44 normally reflexed toward the fluid in the cartridge, the wall section being adapted to be flexed in a direction away from the fluid and ballooned and eventually burst by application of pressure to the fluid. As shown, a cartridge for a hypodermic syringe and containing a liquid medicament able to be ejected by a piston 42 is provided with a stopper 36 having an inwardly conical wall portion 44 held by an aluminium collar 28 between a needle holder flange 32 and a flange 30 integral with the cartridge. On ejection of the liquid the wall portion balloons and either bursts or is pierced by knife edged parts 24. The conical wall portion 44 may as an alternative be arcuate, the stopper 36 is of soft rubber, and the needle holder 20 is of rubber or a transparent plastics material. The shaped wall section of the stopper is said to facilitate the initial aspiration when the syringe is used.
