Abstract

1,202,864. Chimney flashings. REDLAND TILES Ltd., and T. A. G. MUGGERIDGE. 17 Oct., 1967 [9 Sept., 1966], No. 40459/66. Heading F4J. An impervious seal element 10 for use between a sloping tiled roof and a chimney having a surface which faces across the slope of the roof, comprises a trapezoidal first portion 11 with one side 12 adjacent the said surface, an upstanding second portion 16 adapted to lie against said surface, the lower edge 19 of which diverges from the upper edge 18, and a portion 20 which is turned under the lower edge 14 of the element as shown to engage the lower end of the tile. When the seal is in position lead flashing is applied over the upstanding second portion 16 of the elements to complete the seal. The lead flashing also extends over part of the portions 11. The elements 10 can also have on their underside an array of ribs which space them slightly from the adjacent tiles. The sealing element can be made from bitumen asbestos sheet, or rigid unplasticized polyvinylchloride or alternatively from lead, copper, zinc or other metals, or from any suitable synthetic plastics material.
