Abstract
1,202,508. Explosive forming. BOHLER & CO. A.G. GEB. 16 May, 1969 [17 May, 1968] No. 25196/69. Heading B3Q. Explosive forming apparatus comprises a base-plate 4, an anvil 2 spaced from plate 4 by spring means 6, and means 8 for maintaining a layer of liquid, e.g. water, between the plate 4 and anvil 2 to act as a damping cushion that may be expelled laterally. A hollow cylinder 1, to be expanded by an explosive detonated in its base, is placed or clamped on the anvil 2. Plungers 5 on the anvil slide in guide passages 3 in the plate 4 on which one or more springs are mounted. Guide rods may be arranged on the plate 4 for passage through bores in the anvil 2. The sides of the container 8 are protected by a screen of air bubbles 10. A cylindrical container may be used which may be filled with water to the level of the anvil 2, the crankpiece being above the water level.
