Abstract

1,202,351. Chair bottoms and backs. K. L. NEALE and R. M. NEALE. 15 Aug., 1967 [16 May, 1966; 23 March, 1967], Nos. 21587/66 and 13695/67. Headings A4J and A4M. In a chair bottom or back, for use with a tubular metal frame, a concave form is given to a resilient layer 13, on a flat base plate 11, by an underpacking of slightresilient blocks 10. Blocks 10 of fibrous insulation board, or of expanded polystyrene, may be stapled, nailed or glued on to a chip-board base plate 11 and foam plastic sponge rubber or flock layers 12, 13 adhered thereto. A plastics cover 14 may be secured by stitching or welding its edges together. In other forms, composite blocks (15, 17 and 18, Figs 2 and 3, not shown) may be used, to provide a greater angle of taper. The blocks 10 may also be secured to the rear of a base plate 11.
