Abstract

1,201,955. Orientating bobbins. ZINSERTEXTILMASCHINEN G.m.b.H. 27 Nov., 1967 [28 Nov., 1966], No. 53910/67. Heading B8S. [Also in Divisions D1 and D2] In apparatus for uniformly orienting bobbins having wide first ends and narrow second ends, randomly-oriented bobbins are singly and successively located over an elongated opening, shorter but wider than a bobbin, by two supporting members adjacent the ends of the opening. Operating members at the ends of the opening engage the first end of the supported bobbin and move it in the longitudinal direction to an unbalanced position in which the first, end and the centre of gravity of the bobbin are located over the opining while the second end remains supported, so that the bobbin drops through the opening with the first end leading. In the apparatus shown, tapered bobbins 16 successively drop as a stack in a feeding shoot 10 to a position in which the lowermost bobbin 16<SP>11</SP> rests with its ends 18<SP>11</SP> and 17<SP>11</SP> on portions 72, 73 of a support plate 14. Energization of an electromagnet 29, Fig. 2, moves an armature 27 in the direction of arrow A to displace push rods 26 and 28 thereby to advance a plate 25 which separates bobbin 16<SP>11</SP> from the stack and to cause portions 34 and 35 to co-operate with arms 36 and 37 of pivotable operating members 23 and 24 so that bobbin 16<SP>11</SP> is propelled by portion 40 or 41 (according to which engages the wide end of the bobbin) to a position in which the, then unsupported, end 18<SP>11</SP> is over the opening 15 through which the unbalanced bobbin then falls, Fig. 5 (not shown), and is guided, with the end 18<SP>11</SP> leading, by shoot 12 through outlet 81 on to a holder 45 on a conveyer band 46 step-wise movement of which in synchronism with the bobbin discharge is controlled by electrical switches, Fig. 4 (not shown). Discharge of a bobbin initiates deenergization of electromagnet 29 to enable spring 32 to restore operating members and separating plate to positions in readiness for the next cycle of operations.
