[Also in Divisions A5 and C5] α-Linalool, (3,7-dimethyloctadien-(1,7)-ol-(3)), substantially free from or containing not more than 10% of the total weight of #-Linalool is prepared by partial hydrogenation of α-dehydrolinalool or by reaction of 6-methylhepten- (6)-one-(2) with vinyl magnesium bromide. α-Dehydrolinalool, (3,7-dimethylocten-(7)-yn- (1)-ol-(3)), substantially free from or containing not more than 10% of the total weight of #- dehydrolinalool is prepared by adding an acetylene to 6-methylhepten-(6)-one-(2).
