Abstract

1,201,255. Measuring magnetic fields. VARIAN MAT G.m.b.H. March 5, 1969 [March 13, 1968], No.11791/69. Heading G1N. A Hall plate magnetometer for measuring magnetic field strengths in sectoral field mass spectrometers is provided with thermal stabilization and a device for controlling the control current (i H ) in dependence on the temperature (t H ) of the Hall plate 1 in such a manner that the output voltage (U H ) is independent of the Hall plate temperature. As shown, the thermal stabilization system 6 includes a cooling coil 4 and a temperature sensor 8. The same temperature sensor, or, as shown, a different one 10, supplies a t H signal to a control circuit 12 which also receives an i H signal from across a resistance 13 in the control current circuit. Adjustable resistor 20 enables the proportionality factor to be adjusted.
