Abstract
120,119. Sterling Telephone & Electric Co., Bell, F. G., and Davey, W. C. Nov. 14, 1917. Relays.-An electro-magnetic relay is provided with a set of contacts operated during the continued energization of the relay, and a pair of contacts momentarily operated through a swing- ing arm which is displaced when struck by the relay armature. The period of swing of the arm may be varied, and one pair of the set of contacts may be utilized to close a locking circuit for the relay. The armature b of a magnet a operates, when attracted, a set of contacts q, r, s, t, u through a plunger w and momentarily opens a pair of contacts m, n through a swinging arm d pivoted at e. The arm d carries a projection p adapted to engage the contact m when the arm d is struck by the armature b through a buffer spring h. The period of oscillation of the arm d and consequently the period of operation of the contact m is varied by varying the positions of the weights p, l on the arm d. A normally open circuit may be closed by causing the projection p to engage the contact n. The Provisional Specification states that the relay may be applied to the cancelling mechanism of the electric signalling system described in Specification 112,497, [Class 40 (i), Electric signalling systems &c.].
