Abstract

1,201,023. Electronic selective signalling systems. A. J. BAGGOTT. 19 Sept., 1967 [21 June, 1966], No. 27740/66. Heading G4H. In a system for transmitting data a short duration pulse is applied to a pilot line at a predetermined phase relationship to an alternating signal, and at the distant point there is gating means arranged, when open, to receive the short duration pulse, and means responsive to the phase of the alternating signal to open the gating means at the correct instant. At the transmitter Fig. 3 the three phases R, Y, B of the supply are applied to a timed pulse generator 23. The Red phase is connected to a clock pulse generator 25, the output being applied to a three-stage counter. The outputs select the three phases in turn. There are six timed pulses in each phase and these are selected in turn by the stages of counter 27, driven from the last stage of counter 26. The outputs of the counters 26 and 27 are applied to generator 23 to select the controlling phase and one of six phaseshift circuits. The timed pulses are applied to one of 4 leads 30, selected in turn by counter 28. Each lead is connected to 18 receiving units, each of which may be as shown in Fig. 4. A watt-meter at each remote station is arranged to close a switch MS when each Kilowatt-hour has been consumed. This sets a flip-flop 47, 48. The mains voltage is applied to a transformer 31 and a phaseshift network 38, 39 sets a Schmitt trigger 40 the output of which is differentiated by capacitor to give the timed pulse, the timing of which is characteristic of the station. If the trigger 47, 48 is set diode 49 is cut off and the incoming timed pulse cuts off diode for a short period 46 so that if the pulse from capacitor 50 comes within the same period a signal is applied to the base of transistor 52, passing an output via diode 54 to the return line 44. At the transmitting station the returning signals are distributed to corresponding ones of 72 leads by gates enabled by the outputs of counters 26, 27, 28, each lead being connected to a counter counting the number of times the corresponding switch MS has been closed.
