Abstract

120,093. Tisdell, T. A. Oct. 27, 1917. Laminar springs.-A rigid casing for laminar springs, in which the spring is rigidly secured to a point about which the casing is pivoted, has both ends of the casing closed by portions that are rigid with the casing, and, in som,a forms, the spring itself passes out through the casing by a lubricant-tight joint. Fig. 1 shows such a casing applied to a spring having diverging leaves. The spring d is fixed in a. trunnion a carried by brackets c from the chassis and about which the casing e turns. The free end of the spring bears by means of a roller d<2> on the inside of the casing to the outside of which the spring-mounted element is attached. The rear end of the casing is closed by the portion h secured by bolts to the front portion e, and is provided with dust-closing devices and an opening k<1> for admitting lubricant. In modified arrangements, two such springs may 'be pivoted on the spring-supported element and connected to the chassis by pivots or links; one spring casing may be secured ta the chassis and a second one to the spring-mounted element, the pivots of the two springs being rigidly connnected together, or the two springs may be mounted on a common pivot. Two such springs may be mounted together on the chassis, the ends of the springs being connected by links to the ends of a wheel axle-bar. A radius-bar may connect the free end of the casing by a link to the chassis. The spring and casing may be double-ended, the spring bearing internally at each end of the casing.
