Abstract

1,200,369. Rotary pumps. HOBOURN - EATON MFG. CO. Ltd. Sept.7, 1967 [Sept.16, 1966], No.41034/67. Heading F1F. In a rotary pump 10, comprising a drive shaft 13 projecting from the pump housing 11 and connected to rotary pumping means and a cartridge type shaft seal 42 disposed in a seal chamber surrounding the shaft and connected by conduit means to place the seal chamber in communication with the pump inlet to relieve the pressure of hydraulic fluid leaking along the shaft from the pumping means towards the seal chamber, the conduit means comprises an axial shaft passage 50 connected at one end to inlet conduits 27 and at the other end through radial holes 52 with the seal chamber which through passages 47 is connected to grooves 46 forming inlet parts to the pumping means. As described, the pumping means comprises a rotor 15 having a plurality of slots which carry pumping elements 16 such as vanes or rollers which engage the inner cam surface 20 of a cam member 17 sandwiched between end members 25, 3 0 which bearingly support the shaft. A body portion 40 of the member 30 also carries the shaft seal 42 and sealingly engages the housing 11.
