Abstract

1,200,013. Damped resilient couplings. SOC. ANON. FRANCAISE DU FERODO. 28 Feb., 1968 [2 March, 1967], No. 9686/68. Heading F2U. A clutch friction plate 16 is torsionally resiliently connected to a flange 11 of a hub 10 by groups of springs 25, 41, the first group 25 being arranged symmetrically with respect to the flange 11 and having friction damping means 30 on one side of the flange 11 whilst the other group 41 together with its friction damping means 50, 51 is positioned on the other side of the flange 11. The springs 41 are housed under slight precompression in apertures 42, 43, 44 in the clutch plate 16 and plates 11A, 45 riveted to the flange 11. The springs 41 are weaker than the springs 25 which engage apertures 26A, 27A in the flange 11 and an intermediate disc 22. Oversize apertures 28A in the clutch plate 16 and a plate 18 riveted to the clutch plate engage the springs 25 after a predetermined relative circumferential movement between the clutch plate 16 and flange 11 has occurred. Alternate springs 25B are stronger than the springs 25A and are engaged by the apertures 28 after the springs 25A have been partially compressed. Friction damping is provided by friction rings 30, 50, 51 between the disc 22 and flange 11 and between the clutch plate 16 and plates 11A, 45. The rivets 19 pass through recesses 20, 21 in the flange 11 and disc 22 which latter is rotated by the rivets when the springs 25 are compressed. Fig. 5 (not shown) is a torque/deflection characteristic.
