Abstract
1,199,412. Dewatering sewage sludge. FORESTAL LAND TIMBER & RAILWAYS CO. Ltd., N. GREENING (WARRINGTON) Ltd. and S. F. W. CRUNDALL, 31 July, 1967 [30 July, 1966], No. 34332/66. Heading B1D. Sewage sludge, possibly heated or cooled or treated chemically to promote separation, is allowed to settle in a closed or open vessel, and separated water is drained off through one or more porous screens, which may define a lining of the vessel or individual conduits therein and which are oriented at 45 degrees or more to the horizontal, at a controlled rate so that the pressure across the screen is sufficient to force the water therethrough but insufficient to cause clogging. The screen may be wedge wire, expanded metal, woven material, sheet perforated with slots or square or circular apertures (dimensions exemplified), glass, metal, plastics, ceramic or resin-bonded wood.
