Abstract

1,199,378. Cupping. SIEMENS-ELECTROGERATE G.m.b.H. 26 Nov., 1968 [9 Dec., 1967], No. 56131/68. Heading B3Q. A press for cupping apertured blanks 3 comprises a container 1 for liquid, means 2 for urging the blank into sealing engagement with the container's rim, a member 5 for cupping the blank against a liquid cushion in the container, and a support 9 at least a part of which is in the container and provides means against which the rim of the container's aperture may be sealed. The support 9 is backed by a spring or a cylinder containing a fluid. During cupping, the blank may be drawn from the outer and/or inner rim by suitable adjustment of the hold-down force or the force on the support 9. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the container (21) has a telescopic wall (22) which recedes as the cupping ring (24) advances, the blank's inner margin being clamped between members (20, 25).
