Abstract

1,199,265. Modifying uranium surfaces. UNITED STATES ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION. April 14, 1969 [May 14, 1968], No. 18953/69. Heading C7U. Uranium is formed with an oxide film which is non-wettable by water and decreases in oxygen content from the outer surface of the film to its inner surface by heating the uranium to 500 to 665‹ C. in a vacuum and then contacting it with dry oxygen. The uranium may be first degreased and cleaned in e.g. nitric acid.
