Abstract

1,199,243. Azo dyes. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 5 Jan., 1968 [5 Jan., 1967], No. 785/68. Heading C4P. The invention comprises azo dyes of formula wherein Y is SO 3 H, X is H or SO 3 H, R is H or alkyl, R 1 is an aromatic carbocyclic radical free from sulphone and SO 3 H groups and containing at least one alkyl, cycloalkyl alkoxy, aryloxy, sulphonamide, sulphonimide, cyano, alkylmercapto, arylmercapto, halogen, nitro, acylamino, acyl-alkylamino, carboxy, alkoxycarbonyl, carboxic acid amide, alkylcarbonyl or arylcarbonyl group or R 1 is an aromatic heterocyclic radical which is free from SO 3 H groups and n is 1 or 2. The dyes are prepared by coupling diazotized or tetrazotized amines with an appropriate aminonaphthol sulphonic acid. The dyes are used to colour natural and synthetic polyamide materials in red and blue shades.
