Abstract

1,199,045. Gas electrodes; metal/air cells. YARDNEY INTERNATIONAL CORP. 25 Oct., 1967 [25 Oct., 1966], No. 48549/67. Heading H1B. A gas electrode 1 has corrugated surfaces, one of which, 3, 3<SP>1</SP>, 3<SP>11</SP>, is a single electrochemically active surface. As shown in Fig. 1, the air electrode 1 contains Pt, Ag or C or any two of these as catalyst and is used opposite a rotating Zn electrode 2 according to Specification 1,135,447. In another embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) the corrugated gas electrode is separated by a corrugated separator from a corrugated, thin, plated Zn electrode, whilst in a final embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) two gas electrodes are placed one on each side of the counter electrode, all the electrodes being corrugated concentrically, the corrugations matching in radius so that either the gas electrodes or the counter electrode can be rotated. Wipers can also be used in conjunction with the rotating electrodes.
