Abstract

1,198,773. Impact wrenches. G. W. MURPHY INDUSTRIES Inc. 9 Feb., 1968 [10 March, 1967], No. 6502/68. Heading B3N. An air-operated impact wrench comprises a housing 10, a vane-type motor 12, a rotatable spring-urged hammer 48 splined in the motor, a lubricant supply fitting 36, and a rotatable anvil 54 connected to a rod 58, the rod being fixed in a cam assembly at its other end, this assembly providing axial movement to the anvil. Cavities 42, 62, in the housing, receive fluid which leaks from the motor, and in order to balance the air pressure in the wrench, the cavities are connected by a channel 66. The operating fluid for the motor is exhausted through ports 71 to a chamber 70 which is connected to atmosphere through a vent 72. Housing 10 is also provided with exhaust ports 74, 76, which connect chamber 70 to cavities 42, 62.
