Abstract

1474613 Silencing exhaust air THOR POWER TOOL CO 3 May 1974 [14 May 1973] 48209/76 Divided out of 1474611 Heading F1B [Also in Division B3] In a pneumatically operated power tool, see Division B3, the air exhausting from the motor 35 passes through a sound-attenuating tortuous path through the body of the tool before being exhausted to the atmosphere at a ring of discharge ports 53 in a gear case member 52. The path extends from the chambers of motor 35 through a series of circumferentially extending axially spaced slots (not shown) in cylinder block 36, through a clearance space 45 between block 36 and sleeve 37 to annular clearance 46, thence through a plurality of circumferentially spaced, axially extending grooves 49, Figs. 2 and 10, in a gear case member 50, through clearances between the gear 72 of a second stage of a planetary reduction gear train to annular chamber 51 which leads to ports 53.
