Abstract

1,198,690. Biguanides. LABORATOIRES LAROCHE NAVARRON. 14 Nov., 1967 [10 Aug., 1967], No. 51727/67. Heading C2C. The invention comprises compounds of formula and their acid addition salts, wherein Ar is trifluoromethylphenyl (optionally further halogenated) and R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP> are each H or C 1-12 alkyl (but R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> cannot both be H when Ar is trifluoromethylphenyl); or R<SP>1</SP> is H and R<SP>2</SP> is cyclohexyl, pyridyl, pyrimidyl, quinolyl or thiazolyl, or phenyl or naphthyl which may be substituted by halogen, C 1-12 -alkyl or -alkoxy, alkylthio, trihaloalkyl or nitro; or NR<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP> is pyrrolidinyl, piperidyl, morpholinyl or #<SP>2-</SP> pyrrolinyl. These compounds are prepared by reacting ArNHC(: NH)NHCN or NH 2 C(: NH) NHCN with ArNH 2 or R<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP>NH. Therapeutic compositions for oral or rectal administration comprise biguanides of the above general formula, which have a blood-sugar reducing and anorexant activity, and a pharmaceutical excipient.
