Abstract

1,198,596. Seals. GREENE, TWEED & CO. Inc. 10 March, 1969 [29 April, 1968], No. 12487/69. Heading F2B. A sealing ring 12 is provided with a back-up ring 14 received in a groove 16 at one end and a pair of lips 18, 20 at the other end, the sealing ring being made of a copolymer of carboxylate butadiene and acrylonitrile and the back-up ring being made of a polymeric material having a tensile strength at 73‹ F. of at least 8000 1b/in.<SP>2</SP>, a durometer hardness of D75-90 and a modulus of elasticity in tension of between 300,000 and 600,000 1b/in.<SP>2</SP>. The back-up ring may be made from polyhexamethylene adipamide having 0À5 to 6À5% by weight of molybdenum disulphide or from a laminate of phenolic resin and fabric.
