Abstract
1,198,240. Charging shaft furnaces. HUTTENWERK OBERHAUSEN A.G. 27 June, 1969 [10 July, 1968], No. 32504/69. Heading F4B. A charging device for a shaft furnace comprises a hopper 4 with top and bottom openings closed by slide valves 2 and 3, a feed conveyer 1 extending across the width of the top opening and an enclosed distributer in the form of a ridged element 7 with movable flaps 11 and 12 pivotable about shafts 8 and 9. Flaps 11 and 12 are operated by a motor 15 through gearing 16 outside the hopper to the closed position shown when valve 3 is closed, locking mechanism then allowing valve 2 to be opened. After valve 3 has opened flaps 11 and 12 also open to the position shown in dotted allowing charge material to enter the shaft. Feed conveyer 1 only operates when valve 2 is opened. Valves 2 and 3 are operated by motors 5 and 6 and the sequence of operation indicated above may be automatically controlled. A deflector 19 shields the upper valve opening and an extension 20 of the sloping hopper sides acts similarly for the lower valve opening. Fragile material, e.g. unsintered pellets may be handled by the device, which inhibits abrasion and excessive free fall of said material.
