Abstract

[Also in Divisions G1 and H3] In the dynamic balancing of a shaft in which the unbalance vibrations are measured electrically at two bearing planes, each A.C. signal V (Fig. 2) from the vibration transducers is converted into two D.C. signals representing the unbalance components Vx, Vy along two perpendicular axes. These signals are then converted into components along axes e 1 , e 2 , each inclined at an angle p to the y axis, the axes e 1 , e 2 being parallel to two planes containing eight compensation positions along the shaft. As shown (Fig. 10), the two signals Vx, Vy obtained by phase-rectification of the A.C. signal V are fed to inputs 1001, 1002 and a part of each, representative of Vx ¢ cosec p and Vy ¢ sec p tapped off by ganged switches 1004, 1005, set in accordance with the value of p. The latter signal is fed to a D.C. splitter 1006 which provides out puts of opposite polarity which are added to the former signal to provide outputs at 1008 and 1009 representative of Vx ¢ cosec p + Vy ¢ sec p and Vx ¢ cosec p - Vy ¢ sec p which represents the components of unbalance A 1 and A 2 along the axes e 1 , e 2 . The corresponding unbalance in two of four compensation planes along either the e 1 or e 2 axis is computed in the circuit of Fig. 4 in which the setting on potentiometers 403-406 and resistors 409-411 represent the distances a, b, e, d, e between the bearing planes and compensating planes. As shown, for determining the unbalance components in the two outer compensating planes 101, 104 (Fig. 1, not shown) at locations 105, 111, voltages corresponding to aA 1 and eA<SP>1</SP> 1 are tapped off from inputs A 1 , A<SP>1</SP> 1 at 401, 402 and added together by resistors 407, 408, then divided by amount equivalent to (b+c+d) by resistors 409-411, and added to the inputs. The output signals at 415, 416 correspond to representing the unbalance components at locations 105, 111.
