Abstract

1,197,409. Tubular heat exchangers. J.-P. DENIS. 24 Sept., 1968 [17 Jan., 1968], No. 45275/68. Heading F4S. In an air heater of the type wherein a plurality of horizontal glass tubes 1 are received in tube end plates 2, the inner face of each plate 2 is protected from corrosion by a suitably apertured sheet 3 of deformable plastics material. The diameter of the apertures in the sheet 3 is chosen to be less than the external diameter of the tubes 1 to ensure food fluid tightness. Each sheet 3 is attached to the plate 2 by rivets or screws 4 in grooves 5 which house joints 6 between adjacent plates. Glue may additionally be used if required. The tubes are joined at 7 to the end plates. In use air to be heated passes through the tubes and is heated by waste gases flowing over the tubes. Any deposits covering the surfaces of the tubes are removed periodically by washing with water.
