Abstract

1,196,821. Endless conveyers. HAUNIWERKE KORBER & CO. K.G. 13 March, 1968 [19 April, 1967], No. 12183/68. Heading B8A. Packages of cigarettes &c. are conveyed by a conveyer belt 4 past a storage magazine 6 on passage between a packaging machine 1 and a wrapping machine 2 whereby packages in excess of requirements are stored therein and packages to meet the requirement are withdrawn therefrom. The magazine comprises a pair of spaced chains 17, 18 with shelves 19 therebetween. The chains 17, 18 are driven by a reversible motor 29 through an indenting mechanism 46, 48 having indents 47 corresponding to the spacing of the shelves 19. Pneumatic pushers 52, 54 are arranged on opposite sides of the conveyer belt 4 to respectively unload and load the magazine. Photo-electric cells 78, 79 sense the presence or absence of packages on the conveyer 4 and in conjunction with feelers 81, (82), (83), (84) and the control circuit, Fig. 4 (not shown), control the movement of the pushers and the stepwise movement of the magazine to maintain an even flow of packages to the wrapping machine 2. In the limit should the wrapping machine 2 fail the control circuit will fill the magazine 6 before switching off the packaging machine and similarly will empty the magazine 6, should the packaging machine fail, before switching off the wrapping machine. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 6 (not shown), a single pusher (254) with a vacuum head (251) to withdraw the packages from the magazine replaces the two previous pushers.
