A rotary regenerative heat-exchanger for air and cold gas comprises a rotating heat storage matrix 7, wherein sections 11, 14 through which the air and cold gas respectively pass are diametrically opposite each other and are of smaller cross-sectional area than sections 3, 4 through which flue gas flows. The flue gas may flow through sections 3, 4 in a direction contrary to that of the air and cold gas.
