Apparatus for playing a board game comprises a board having an outer track and an inner subdivided map-like area, a plurality of playing pieces, a numerically marked die for use in determining the movement of the pieces around the outer track, a direction-indicating die for use in choosing the directions of movement of the pieces over the inner area and a plurality of cards bearing symbols corresponding with those marked on a number of the subdivisions of the inner map-like area. The apparatus may be used to play a game in which each player moves his playing pieces on a mountaineering, archaeology sailing or diving expedition in the inner subdivided map-like area of the board, the symbols on the cards and inner area of the board representing a schooner, diving clothing, charts and an aqualung for a diving expedition, a raft, sextant, dinghy and telescope for a sailing expedition, a compass, tools, netting and mules for an archaeology expedition and an ice axe, boots, porters and tents for a mountaineering expedition. The apparatus may also comprise token money used in buying the equipment for an expedition, sixteen Personnel Cards representing a captain, diver, marine engineer and diving shop equipment list for a diving expedition, a zoologist, navigator, crew man and sailing shop equipment list for a sailing expedition, an archaeologist, surveyor, photographer and archaeology shop equipment list for an archaeology expedition, and a mountaineer, guide, biologist and mountaineering shop equipment list for a mountaineering expedition, which are dealt to the players at the start of the game and fourteen Exploration Club' cards taken when a player's piece lands on certain of the squares of the outer track of the board and bearing various instructions to be followed by the player. The player visits his main objective and optionally lesser objectives for which payments are made and returns to base, the winner of the game being the player who has the most money at the end of the expedition.
