Abstract

1,196,315. Closing containers. EKCO PRODUCTS Inc. 1 Aug., 1967, No. 35296/67. Heading B8C. [Also in Division B3] A die for folding down the upstanding lip of a preferably rectangular flanged container 18 on to a cover 14, has prebend means to give parts of the lip an inward bias prior to the final folding down to effect the seal. The die shown is of the kind having a ring 47 supported by and spring biased away from a plate 48, and a vertically reciprocable container support 40. The prebend means consists of circular section camming elements 50 slidable in bores in the plate 48 against springs 53 and projecting into the space defined by the ring 47. Two elements 50 are mounted adjacent each side and end wall lip portion, clear of the corners. As the support 40 rises, the elements 50 bend in the lips and then, during the final bending, they are forced up into their bores, Fig. 3B.
