Abstract
1,196,291. Cooling milk. J. P. STENSON. 1 June, 1967 [11 July, 1966], No. 25426/67. Headings F4H and F4S. A method of cooling fresh milk comprises feeding the milk immediately after milking into an elevated supply pan 8, allowing the milk to descend by gravity from a central feed aperture 9 in the pan 8 into and through a cooling coil of tubing 1, said coil being mounted in a tank containing relatively cool water, and collecting the cooled milk from the coil outlet 4 in a conventional milk can 12. The water container is adapted to hold a volume of water equal to the volume of milk required to be cooled, but when a supply of running water is available, the water container 2 can have an inlet pipe 15 and an outlet pipe 16, the quantity of milk which can then be cooled being unlimited so long as the circulation of cold water through the cooler is continuous. A filtering unit (10, Fig. 4) is located in the mouth of the milk pan 8. The can 12 whilst being filled may be located within a detachable enclosure of heat-insulating material.
