Abstract

1,195,948. Endless conveyer belts. LEMFORDER KUNSTSTOFF G.m.b.H. & CO. K.G., and FRIED KRUPP G.m.b.H. 24 May, 1968 [27 May, 1967], No. 24979/68. Heading B8A. [Also in Divisions B4-B5] A method of producing a conveyer belt comprising a layer of foam plastics having at the load carrying surface of the belt a waffle-like pattern of depressions and projections situated close beside each other, a thin layer of wearresistant material e.g. a plastics material covering the load carrying surface of the belt and drawn down into the depressions and a flexible pull resistant member bonded to the layer of foam plastics at the drive surface of the belt or embedded on the layer of foam plastics near the drive surface of the belt, comprises providing the sheet of material to form the wear-resistant layer with the required pattern by placing it on a base having depressions which correspond to the projections of the required pattern, heating it and drawing it into the depressions while the depressions are subjected to suction, introducing the raw material for the layer of foam plastics between the shaped sheet and a flexible covering sheet spaced from it and bonding the foam plastics during foaming to the shaped sheet and to the covering sheet. The covering sheet may constitute the pull-resistant member e.g. a rubber or textile belt extending for the full width of the conveyer belt and forming the drive surface thereof, said covering sheet being optionally provided with a wear-resistant layer at the drive surface. Alternatively the pullresistant member may comprise one or more layers of textile material embedded in the foam near the flexible covering sheet. In a preferred embodiment, a sheet 7 to form the load carrying surface of the belt and having a width greater than that of the finished belt is shaped to the required pattern by contacting it with the surface of heated roller 9 having depressions 10 connected by passages 20 with suction means, and elevations n, the shaped sheet being fed in spaced relationship to the lower span of endless textile belt 5 and foam forming material introduced therebetween by nozzle 23, means being provided for folding over the edges of sheet 7 and belt 5 in overlapping relationship and welding them together to contain the foam, the sheet 7 being cut to the required length and its edges joined together to produce an endless conveyer belt. The conveyer belts may be used in steep line conveyer installations, the material to be elevated being embedded between the wear-resistant layers of two belts.
