Abstract

1,195,931. Crystallizing glass. ORDENA TRUDOVOGO KRASNOGO ZNAMENI ZAVOD "AVTOSTEKLO". 7 Feb., 1968, No. 6181/68. Heading C1M. Crystalline glass articles are made by (a) heat-treating glass strip until 60-80% of theoretical crystallization has occurred, (b) cooling the glass, (c) cutting the strip into articles (d) re-heating the articles to maximum crystallization temperature, (e) maintaining this temperature for 1À5-3 min. per mm. thickness of article, and (f) cooling at 85-250‹ C. per min. The glass has coefft. of linear expansion # 40 x 10<SP>-7</SP>/‹ C. In an example, a glass is of composition, in wt. per cent: SiO 2 , 59À0; CaO, 23À0; Al 2 O 3 , 8À0; MgO, 1À5; MnO, 0À8; Fe 2 O 3 , 0À2; Na 2 O, 4À5; F 2 , 2À5; S, 0À5. The expansion coefft. is 85 x 10<SP>-7</SP>/‹ C. (a) is at 700‹ C. for 30 minutes followed by raising to 920‹ C. and 250‹ C./hr. and holding for 12 minutes. (b) cooling is to 70‹ C. at 450‹ C./hr. (c) articles 500 x 500 x 10 mm. are formed. (d) the temperature is raised to 920‹ C. at 350‹ C./hr, (e) held for 30 minutes, and (f) lowered to 50‹ at 250‹ C/min.
