Abstract

1,195,323. Removing material from verges &c. G. R. M. STERLAND. 24 Jan., 1969 [2 Feb., 1968], No. 5384/68. Headings A1E and A1F. [Also in Division B8] Apparatus e.g. for trimming roadside verges comprises a jib 2 carried by a vehicle-mountable frame 1, the jib 2 carrying a disc coulter or knife 17 or cutting into soil or turf adjoining a verge or kerb, and one or more shares 14 for digging under the cut strip of soil &c. and guiding it into the path of an elevator. As shown the apparatus is adjustable in inclination on a tractor T, and two elevators are provided, the lower one comprising cross bars 9 on endless chains 8, while the upper one 4 comprises ribs 5 on an endless belt driven by a hydraulic motor 10, drive being transmitted to the lower elevator by a crossed belt 12. Alternatively, screw conveyers may be used.
