Abstract

1,195,317. Beds. P. J. FLOOD. 24 June, 1968, No. 30063/68. Heading A4H. A headboard for a bed comprises a back panel 27, a left side enclosure 2 hinged about a vertical axis, a right side enclosure 3 also hinged about a vertical axis, a centre enclosure 4 hinged about a horizontal axis and a fixed bottom enclosure 5. A bed 6 abuts the front face of the fixed enclosure 5, the sleeping surface thereof being just below the hinged enclosures 2, 3, 4. The enclosures are retained in closed condition by bolts 14, 15 on the side enclosures mating with latches 16 on the centre enclosure. The side enclosures contain shelves and may be capable of pivoting through 180 degrees (Figs. 9, 10). The axes of rotation of the side enclosures may be located on the front surface of the headboard (Fig. 7) or on the side faces of the headboard midway between the front and rear surfaces (Figs. 8, 9, 10) and the side enclosures may be supported by wheels (44) bearing on tracks (43) on the fixed part of the headboard (Fig. 6). The bottom enclosure 5 contains back-rests 21, 22, each including a stepped bottom structure (25, Fig. 4) which can be adjustably engaged with the front edge 24 of the bottom enclosure 5 to alter the height and inclination of the back-rest.
