Abstract

1,195,287. Amines. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 27 Oct., 1967 [28 Oct., 1966], No. 48859/67. Heading C2C. [Also in Division B1] Amines are prepared by reacting alcohols, aldehydes or ketones with NH 3 or a primary or secondary amine in the presence of hydrogen and a hydrogenation catalyst at superatmospheric pressure and at elevated temperature in the liquid phase using a supported hydrogenation catalyst which contains 5-80% by weight of Co and/or Ni and/or Cu and/or Ag (with reference to the catalyst composition) and 0À1- 10% by weight of Cr and/or Mn (with reference to the metal content of the whole catalyst composition) and which also contains a pyroacid or polyacid. In the examples ethylhexylamine is obtained from ethylhexanol using a Co, Cr, pyro- or poly-phosphoric acid, Al 2 O 3 catalyst, and isopropylamine, propylenediamine - 1,2, ethylenediamine, hexamethylenediamine and hexamethylenimine are similarly obtained from isopropanol, propanolamine-(1,2), monoethanolamine and hexanediol-(1,6), respectively.
