Abstract

1,194,944. Respiratory apparatus. L'AIR LIQUIDE SOC. ANON. POUR L'ETUDE ET L'EXPLOITATION DES PROCEDES GEORGES CLAUDE. 24 May, 1968 [24 May, 1967], No. 25061/68. Heading A5T. A closed-circuit individual respiratory apparatus comprises a regenerating element G, suitably comprising an alkali or alkaline earth metal peroxide, a heat exchanger (not shown) and a cooling element R for treatment of exhaled gases prior to reinhalation. The regenerating element G comprises a sealed container 28 whose ends can be perforated, while the fluid container 13 in the cooling element R is provided with an opening member 21. These two elements are mounted on a frame 50 on which there are pivotably connected a first lever 30 supporting a perforating tube 35 and a second lever 32 supporting a further perforating tube 39 and also a feed union 26 for regenerated gases, in which there is arranged a valve for opering the cooling fluid container 13 and discharging said fluid through opening 23 of meanber 21 and then through a tube to the heat exchanger. The two levers are spaced from the two elements G and R prior to operation by a locking means 41. Further optional features of the device include a glass ampoule 45 containing catalyst, such as a ,metal salt, for the regenerator, in such a position that it is also. perforated on, movement of the looking means, and baffles in the heat exchanger. The cooling fluid may be a chlorofluorinated hydrocarbon or mixture thereof. The heat exchanger may be of flexible material with the inner container for the gases acting as a breathing bag.
