Abstract

1,194,832. Keysenders. GENERAL ELECTRIC & ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO'S. Ltd. 8 June, 1967 [24 March, 1966], No. 13054/66. Heading H4K. [Also in Division H1] In an electric push-button mechanism a carriage 20 is mounted on parallel motion links 22 and comprises parallel rods 21 each positioned below the stems of the buttons of one row, and each stem has an inclined surface which, as the button is initially depressed, engages the corresponding rod and displaces the carriage to a position in which the button can be further depressed without further displacement of the carriage giving the buttons a snap action. In the subscriber's telephone set shown, in the displaced position of the carriage the rods 21 are positioned to block depression of all buttons adjacent to the depressed button. The inclined surfaces are bevelled ends of the button stems, adjacent stems being bevelled in opposite directions. The middle rod 21 carries a sector-shaped cam which passes through a slot in one contact of a spring contact set 25 and engages another contact of this set. When the carriage is displaced the cam rotates operating the contacts. The contacts exert a centering force on the carriage and cause its return when the button is released. When a button is depressed a flattened side portion of the stem engages the rods 21 after the carriage has been initially displaced providing the snap action. The moulded plastics base 10 carries a printed circuit board attached at 16 and the push-buttons are arranged to operate contact-making members disposed between the base member 10 and the printed circuit board. The spring contact set may be replaced by a microswitch.
