A wire strand, Fig. 2, comprising a plurality of outer wires 2 wound helically round a core wire 1, is characterized in that each individual outer wire 2 is provided with shallow circumferential recesses 3 that are impressed in the surface of the wire and cover the major portion of the surface of the wire; each recess 3, as measured circumferentially sinking gradually into the wire and then rising gradually to the surface again, each recess having rounded corners at its circumferentially extending edges. The wire strand is for use with prestressed concrete.
