Abstract

119,474. Seimbille, L. E. Sept. 28, 1917. [Convention date]. Heating by electricity.-The resistance wire d of nickelchromium &c. is wound upon a core c secured at each end to the container and having sharp edges to allow of free circulation of water round the wire. The ends of the wire d are connected to upper and lower terminals f<1>. The switch h is connected with the water cock g and comprises two pairs of arms i, i<1> as shown in Fig. 2 so that the current remains constant irrespective of the position of the cock and the amount of water flowing through the heater. Water at various temperatures can thus be obtained by regulating the supply of water which enters at the lower end of the container and is delivered through an outlet c at the upper end. Specification 8395/13 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the heating wire may be of a metal which is not necessarily a poor conductor but whose resistance is greater owing to its small section. The wire may be protected by electroplating or enamel. The connexion between the cock and switch may be made by means of a cardan joint. A modification is described in which the water is heated by the current passing between two electrodes immersed in the water. The electrodes may be in the form of blades, disks or tubes and they may be separated by a diaphragm. In all the forms the delivery pipe is of greater section than the supply pipe. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
