Abstract

1,194,504. Metal containing formazane dyestuffs. J. R. GEIGY A.G. 16 Feb., 1968[17 Feb., 1967], No. 7681/68. Heading C4P. The invention comprises metal containing formazane dyestuffs of the general formula wherein A and B are each aromatic carbocyclic radicals or one of A and B is an aromatic carbocyclic radical and the other is an aromatic heterocyclic radical having X or X<SP>1</SP> in o-position to the nitrogen bond, X and X<SP>1</SP> are each a metal bonding substituent, Me is a di- or tri-cyclically bound metal of atomic number 24 to 30, R is H or a monovalent organic radical, R<SP>1</SP> is H or an optionally substituted C 1 -C 5 alkyl group, Y is -CH 2 CH 2 -E, wherein E is halogen, e.g. Cl or Br, an esterified OH group, e.g. -OSO 3 H, -O-PO 3 H 2 , -O-SO 2 -alkyl, -O-SO 2 - aryl, -O-CO-alkyl, -O-CO-aryl, a tertiary amino group, an ammonium group, a cyclic ammonium group or the hydrazinium + group -N(CH 3 ) 2 NH 2 , Z is a salt-forming watersolubilizing group which dissociates in water with release of protons, m, n and q are each positive whole numbers of at most 2 and p is a number from 1 to 5. They are prepared by reacting a hydrazone of the formula wherein X, A and R are as above and Q is H or a substituent which can be replaced by azo coupling in any desired order with the diazonium compound of an amine X<SP>1</SP> (q-1) -B-NH 2 and an agent introducing a metal Me, the hydrazone and diazonium compound together containing one or two groups of the formula -(NR<SP>1</SP>) n-1 -SO 2 -Y and at most 4 water solubilizing groups Z, X<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>1</SP>, B. Y, n and q being as defined above. Alternatively they may be prepared by esterification of the corresponding dyes wherein Y is -CH 2 CH 2 OH with a mono- or poly-basic acid. Me is preferably copper or nickel and X and X<SP>1</SP> are preferably OH or COOH. A, B and R may be further substituted. The dyestuffs are used to dye wool, silk, leather, paper, synthetic polyamides and polyurethanes, rayon, jute, ramie hemp and cotton and may be used to colour lacquers, varnishes and spinning masses of acetyl cellulose or synthetic polyamides in blue, green and brown shades.
