Abstract

1,194,461. Tea manufacture. ALEX LAWRIE & CO. Ltd. 1 Jan., 1969 [19 Jan., 1968], No. 3029/68. Heading A2B. In a process for the treatment of green tea leaf, the chopped green tea leaves are caused to travel in a helical path by an air stream induced by a rotor in a cylindrical casing, so that the tea leaf cells are fractured by abrasion between periodically interengaging parts of the rotor and casing. A suitable apparatus is shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, comprising a cylindrical casing 1 having an inlet 1a for the leaf and provided with projecting elements 2. A rotor 3 is provided with cutting blades 4a to cut the leaves and further blades 4b to abrade the leaves by interaction with elements 2. Fan blades 5 induce the air flow.
