Abstract

1,194,211. Shaft couplings. HOOVER Ltd. 16 Aug., 1967 [17 Aug., 1966], No. 37813/67. Heading F2U. A releasable shaft coupling, especially for a household mixing machine comprises an upper rigid toothed socket 6 axially engageable with a lower resilient member 8 having saw teeth 22 with substantially radial driving flanks 23, the teeth 16 of member 6 being shaped to avoid interference over a considerable angular range, and their lower portions 16 having inclined lead-in surfaces 19. Socket member 6 may be made of polyacetal plastic material and member 8 of neoprene or other rubber-like elastomer, the surface of which has been halogen treated to reduce friction. Member 8 may be treated by soaking it for 5-7 minutes in a 2¢-4% solution of bromine in water to produce a glazed hydrobromide surface and then rinsing it in a 10% ammonia solution and then in clear water.
