Abstract
1,194,086. Curing epoxy resins. DOW CHEMICAL CO. 15 Aug., 1968, No. 39038/68. Heading C3B. Liquid epoxy resins are cured by: (I) a polycarboxylic acid anhydride in the presence of (II) an organometallic curing accelerator, e.g. zinc octoate and (III) a phosphate ester which is the reaction product of orthophosphoric acid and an aliphatic monoglycidyl ether. (I) may be present at 40-100 parts by wt. per 100 parts of polyepoxide; (II) may be used at 3-65 parts by wt. and (III) at 25-70 parts by wt. per 100 parts of epoxy resin. The curing may take place in a solvent, e.g. an ether of glycerine and propylene oxide. A light stabilizer, e.g. triphenyl phosphite, may also be present. (III) May be obtained by reacting the glycidyl ether (0.3-3À5 moles), e.g. butyl glycidyl ether, with phosphoric acid (1 mole) at 40-100‹ C. in a solvent, e.g. a polyglycol.
