Knitwear articles are steamed and pressed on templates each comprising a thin sheet, e.g. 0.8 to 1 mm thick, shaped to conform to the outline of the article and at least partly perforated, the diameter of the perforations 10 'being such that they do not leave any markings on the articles after treatment. Perforations 10 may be about 1 mm in diameter with their centres about 1.25 mm apart. The edge of the template is non- perforated or may be covered with foil 13, e.g. of tetrafluorethylene, and the whole may be coated with tetrafluorethylene. The template may be shaped to support a sweater with two arms 16, 17, one or both of which may be removable or it may ibe in two halves joined by a foil strip and enclosed in a steam and air permeable envelope. The trunk may be perforated and the arms may be stays 16a, 17a, Fig. 10, which are very thin and are adjustable in width. When the sweater is draped thereon, it is tensioned by members 26 attached to a frame 28 integral with the template and hooked into the lower edge of the sweater. All versions have a frame 28 and these have saw tooth holding elements 29 at the waist. The template is mounted in the pressing device by means of bar 28a of frame 28. Otherwise the template may be detachably secured to a frame 41 with adjustable legs 42, 43 by which it is mounted in the steaming or pressing device, Fig. 12.
