Abstract

1,193,896. Coated steel. CIBA Ltd. 31 May, 1968 [2 June, 1967], No. 26285/68. Heading B2K. [Also in Division C3] Steel panels are coated with a composition comprising a dispersion of a vinyl chloride resin in a liquid plasticiser and an epoxy resin composition comprising an epoxy resin, e.g. a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A, dicyandiamide and benzyldimethylamine. A preferred composition comprises 100 parts by wt. of polyvinyl chloride resin, 50.4 parts of dioctyl phthalate, 3 parts of epoxidised soya bean oil, 2.5 parts of stabiliser, 1.0 part of thixotropic agent, 36.8 parts of liquid epoxy resin, 3.7 parts of dicyandiamide, 0.15 parts of benzyldimethylamine, 8.1 parts of TiO 2 and 27.0 parts of CaCo 3 . The coatings may be cured by heating, e.g. for 15 minutes at 190‹C.
