Abstract

1,193,260. Vibrating screen separator. SWECO Inc. 9 Oct., 1967 [7 Oct., 1966], No. 44932/66. Headings B1D and B2H. A vibrating screen separator, used for classifying solids or for de-watering sewage sludge, comprises a horizontal screen 24, mounted on springs 11 and vibrated by out-ofbalance weights 13, 14 on the shaft of motor 12, and rotating nozzles 36 which periodically deliver stream, hot water or solvent to clear the screen of accumulated grease or oil, while screening is temporarily suspended. Nozzles 36 are carried by radial arms 35 extending from a hollow shaft 34, to which the steam, water or solvent is supplied through rotary coupling 33, and are so oriented as to rotate the arms and shaft by the pressure of fluid passing through them. In Fig. 3 (not shown), two annular screens (52, 53) operate in parallel, oversize material falling through central openings therein through which extends the rotary shaft (69) carrying nozzles on radial arms above each screen, the shaft not being mechanically connected to the vibrating screen assembly. The screens may operate simultaneously or individually or could be arranged to operate in series, material being delivered tangentially on to the screens.
